According to one old surveyor there was a tower in 1584, but whether this was fact or wishful thinking is impossible to say. There is no evidence of one now.

There is an obvious bastle derivative in the farmstead. (Dodds 1999)

Gatehouse Comments

Dodds does not give references. It would be nice to know if the surveyor reported a tower or a 'pele' (which could mean a pele tower or a pelehouse). This is not recorded in SMR and other authorities may be assuming (probably safely) that this reported 'tower' is the same as Catcherside Cottage Bastle.
