A destroyed motte, sited at Munslow (SO 51908763) by Hardwick in the 18th century (Rowley).

Gatehouse Comments

The placename 'Munslow' derives, in part, from hlaw a Saxon word meaning mound (usually in the sense of a burial mound) so it is entirely possibly the mound described in the C18 was a burial mound (not necessarily of Saxon date) although this doesn't exclude reuse as a motte. The given map reference in PastScape is close to the church but not adjacent. Munslow was part of the large Domesday manor of Estune (Aston, the tenurial history is complex with Munslow sometimes being subinfeudated but at the main period of motte building the manor house seems to have been at Aston (the site now represented by Aston Hall).On these bases Gatehouse considers this an unlikely motte.
