King called this a 'low, small, feeble motte'.

Trial work by GGAT showed that this feature was a scarped natural feature and not a motte. Descheduled 1989. (Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

The investigation, by Neil Maylan, excluded medieval construction the mound, although the position next to a medieval church is suggestive of medieval origin. However this location evidence is misleading as the mound was created during a rebuilding of the rectory (OS card of 1957 quoted in Phillips). The mound no longer exists.
