Name may suggest proximity of defended site RCAM visit 1910 records derelit called Castell Bach in area since destroyed. (Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER report of ? castle)

A small ruined homestead, marked in the Tithe Schedule, No. 1035, 'Castell house.' It has not been inhabited for at least sixty years. It once possessed a large stone oven, which has long since vanished. It stands on the lands of Blaenplwyf-uchaf, within memory formerly called 'Aber Llewelyn.' (RCAHMW)

Gatehouse Comments

Small building shown on 1st edition OS map, possibly an ironic placename for a small isolated house. Although in the RCAHMW inventory as a 'site of Historic or Antiquarian interest' there is nothing to really suggest it was thought this was the site of a fortification of any sort or date.
