Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust record of ? castle reads 'Name suggestive of a defended site. No such feature apparent on this afforested hill (OS, 1975, CPAT site visit 1979).'

Gatehouse Comments

This well defined conical hill could well be the site of a Iron Age hillfort although no earthworks seem to survive. It could not be the location of a medieval fortification. Banc y Ddinas is a hillside opposite Pen y Ddinas and clearly takes its name from the hill. A CPAT record records this as a ? castle site although this is clearly not the location of any type of fortification of any age. It is more likely the small hamlet of Dinas between these two placenames takes it's name from the conical hill.
